The very essence of the American Dream is the main ingredient of our Authentic Mexican Flare.  "Esperanza" is a traditional mexican name that translates to "Hope" and La Esperanza means hope in more ways than one.  We opened our doors in October of 1995 as an Italian & Mexican Combination Eatery.  After the inital year of operantions, it was decided that the concept was to broad and not very profitable, at that point an executive decision was made to alter the concept and move towards an all Mexican concept, with newfound life and the hope that this change would prove more profitable, and not to mention the condition that the new format be named after a family member that recently passed away, tradition at "La Esperanza" began.

Our familia came to America to do farm work, as had our Grandfather, and his father before them.  After many farm seasons and consistent trips, our family members received permanent visas and decided to stay in the region.  They moved away from the Michigan fields and found constant work in Indiana.  As time passed each relative found an area of work and began their personal journey.  However, some of the brothers got involved in the restaurant industry, wether it was washing dishes or what ever else could be found.  That opportunity led to cooking for various country clubs in the Elkhart area and eventually, fifteen years later, during the early 90's the Establishement of our first Mexican Restaurant in Elkhart.  Many things happened during that time, and the very first restaurant was also a very first great success for about five years.  The family had a stint at various other businesses beyond the initial attempt, and eventually deciding to come to South Bend and settling with La Esperanza.    

We are now into our 14th year and very thankful of all our customers and the community.  This is now what we consider our familia.  Our growth has been consistent and most certaintly with lots of growing pains.  But tradition is what makes us who whe are and the tradition of this community and Notre Dame is what keeps us alive.  We hope that you continue to add to this true story with the essence of the American Dream.
